Google Maps 8.3

If you were wondering just what was in inside a Maps update appearing on your devices starting yesterday, wonder no more: the changelog is here. The changelog, though, is not only short, it is not of particularly great interest unless you're a Hindi speaker. Here it is:
What's New
*Hindi now supported, including voice navigation
*Improved navigation notifications on Android Wear devices
*Bug fixes
And that's all she (or he) wrote. The improved notifications on Wear devices are probably a welcome change, though so few Wear devices are out in the wild at
this point that it's something most people won't notice. The addition of Hindi is, of course, great news for Hindi speakers.
This update seems to no longer be in staged deployment, and nothing else has jumped out at us upon close inspection of the updated app, but if you do see
anything, feel free to let us know.
You can also catch up with what happened in the last update, 8.2, that began rolling out around six weeks ago.

HTC One (E8) now available at Sprint for $99.99

A couple of weeks ago a leaked video told us that the HTC One (E8) would be headed to Sprint in the US, and today the carrier has announced that the smartphone is available for order.

So you can already go ahead to Sprint's website and purchase the One (E8) in either Polar White or Misty Gray.

The price you'll need to pay for this handset varies based on what method you choose. If you want to go the traditional two-year contract route, it will set you back $99.99.

If you want to use Sprint's Easy Pay
installment plan, you shell out nothing upfront, then followed by 23 monthly payments of $20.84 and a final 24th payment of $20.67.

The HTC One (E8) comes with a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD3 touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 5 MP front snapper for selfies. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with a 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU, aided by 2GB of RAM. Internal storage is 16GB, expandable via microSD cards. LTE support is obviously in tow,
and a 2,600 mAh battery keeps things juiced up. The One (E8) runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

Interestingly, the official press renders show that Sprint hasn't added its logo anywhere on the device.

Stay tuned :p

Top 5 best Android Apps

1.Tap Path

TapPath is another one of those wonderful apps from developer Chris Lacy, if you’re familiar with his work you might already use this app. Essentially it lets set up tap actions for clicking web links, so tapping once will let you open up the link in your chosen browser, but double or triple tapping the link can complete some other sort of action like opening up a completely different app. Want to send that link to pushbullet to share with friends or to Pocket to save it and read it for later? Simple, just set it up so that TapPath allows a double tap or a triple tap for either one of those actions. You can grab TapPath from the Play Store for just $0.99 if you find this to be as useful as we did 2.Showear: Android Wear Lock This app just popped up today, but it is immediately worthy of being on this list. From personal experience with the Gear Live for about a month, this is an app that was sorely needed. Showear lets you set up either pattern or swipe lock screen sequences so you can only unlock your Android Wear watchface after performing the registered sequence. The initial idea seemed to be to give users a way to wear their watch while they take a shower but without the hassle of the water messing with your lock screen. It obviously provides much more of a benefit than that as it’ll be useful in many other situations, but you get the idea. It has an opaque or transparent lockscreen, and it reduces the screen brightness to consume lower amounts of battery. Showear is free, so if you have an Android Wear smartwatch and were looking for a lockscreen app, check this one out by hitting the Play Store link. 3.Afterlight Afterlight is another photo editing application and a popular one at that. Having been ported over from iOS after capturing the hearts of many users, Afterlight made its way to the Play Store. It boasts a simple design with “powerful and snappy” tools to help you create some really stunning pictures. It has 15 adjustment tools, 59 filters, 66 textures, and you can add frames from a selection of 77 different types and even crop and transform the image. There are lots of ways for you to make your image look unique, and if you want to give Afterlight a try you can grab it for $0.99 from the Play Store. 4.Over If you’re familiar with meme’s then you you’re already familiar with the way that Over works for Android. It isn’t essentially an app to make meme’s but in the same fashion that you can add text to an image for an otherwise comedic purpose, thus creating a meme, Over lets you add text overlays on top of images to create stylish and fun images with simple quotes, inspiring mantras or anything else your creative little mind can come up with. The app provides you with tons of preset text styles that you can choose from, and you can add in quotes or other bits of text that are already included, or you can insert your own words and overlay the text on top of your images. Over doesn’t just let you add in text though as it also lets you add in art overlays if you wish. If you want to give Over a try, you can grab it for $1.99 in the Play Store. 5.Unclouded Cloud storage has been one of the single greatest things to come to computers and mobile devices in the past decade, and there are many great services out there to help you manage all your files, send stuff to friends and family and keep backups of the stuff you find important. Sometimes though, if you’re like a few of us at Android Headlines you might find it a little difficult to keep all those cloud storage accounts organized, this usually happens if you have more than one service, like Dropbox, Drive, Box, and maybe another. Unclouded helps you take control of your cloud storage and keep on top of your multiple cloud accounts with ease. Right now it supports just Drive and Dropbox, but Box and OneDrive accounts support is coming soon. You can use Unclouded to see which files and folders are taking up the most space, which categories you have the most of, know what has been changed and when, and search for things to make looking for specific files or folders as easy as can be. Unlcouded is free, and you can grab it from the Play Store link.

Google Nexus 9 blasts through AnTuTu with LTE on board

A couple of days after allowing us to catch a
glimpse of its specs in CPU-Z, the yet to be
announced Nexus 9 tablet showed up in the
AnTuTu benchmark database. The HTC-made
Android 5.0 tablet posted the impressive score
of 45,923 in the popular benchmark.

The data from AnTuTu confirms the Nexus 9 specs we already know. They include 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC with top clock speed of 2.5GHz (it explains the higher benchmark score than the non-64bit version we tested in the Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 ). The AnTuTu cameo of the Nexus 9 also reveals that the tablet will be available with LTE connectivity when official. The cellular connectivity was confirmed by the presence of an IMEI number on the device. Rumored specs of the Nexus 9 include 8.9” display with 2048x1440 pixels, 16 or 32GB of built-on memory, 8MP camera, and built-in stereo speakers. The slate will likely debut at some point in Q3 this year. Stay tuned!

CPU-Z Confirms Tegra K1 SoC for HTC Nexus 9

While we've been waiting for HTC and Google to
announce an 8.9" Nexus tablet we've been
treated to more than one leak about the
coveted Nexus 9 The latest one is from
hardware-assessing app CPU-Z, which
confirms the SoC in charge of the tablet is the
latest Nvidia Tegra K1 64-bit.

We've already suspected the tablet will carry a
64-bit Nvidia chip and with two leaks behind it,
the rumors seem plausible to say the least.
The Tegra K1 inside the Nexus 9 will have a top
clock speed of 2.5GHz which is higher than the
2.2GHz non-64-bit Tegra K1 we benchmarked
and found to top our charts , especially in the
graphics department.
Nvidia claims its Tegra K1 chip is 1.5 times
more efficient than its competition which
should translate into reasonable battery life
despite the immense power within. The Tegra
K1 has a 192-core GPU based on the desktop-
grade Kepler architecture and Nvidia's Cuda
cores.
As for the Nexus 9, it's rumored to have a 4:3
aspect 1440 x 2048 pixel 8.9" display of 281ppi,
8MP camera and the latest Android L from
Google.

Motorola Moto X+1 to feature optical zoom, 3D screen

The Motorola Moto X+1 is among the most hotly anticipated smartphones that will come out this September. We’ve already got a glimpse of its internals thanks to a leaked benchmark scorecard, but now we get some more bits of the puzzle.
A tipster that has good track record with Motorola has detailed some of the exclusive Moto X+1 features that should help the smartphone tackle the big guys. Most interestingly, he says the smartphone will come with optical zoom, which while not technically a first will be unique in the market right now.
The other interestingly sounding bit is a 3D display. You probably remember that 3D screens came to life a few years ago with both LG and HTC releasing stereoscopic flagships and other expressing their interest in them. It turned out that the idea isn’t too well received by the consumers and the trend died. That’s why we believe that the 3D display is actually a curved screen ala Nokia N9.
Given how important ergonomics are for the company, it certainly makes more sense than implementing a parallax barrier 3D screen.
The final noteworthy feature is touchless control – almost certainly an advanced version of the always on voice commands that the Moto X introduced.
So how excited do you feel about the Motorola Moto X+1? Do you think that the company will deliver a better flagship now under Lenovo ownership than it did when Google was in charge.

Nexus X specs and Android version confirmed in benchmark

The yet to be revealed Nexus X smartphone made yet another appearance in AnTuTu. Made by Motorola, the device is expected to debut at some point this fall with proper flagship specs on board.

The leaked AnTuTu screenshots confirm the device’s previously leaked specs. They include Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 APQ8084 chipset with 2.7GHz quad-core CPU, Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in memory. The screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (likely 5.2” in size), while the main camera is a 13MP unit.

The benchmark also goes further to confirm that when official, Android L will carry version number 5.0. The actual name of the build is still a subject of speculation.
Furthermore, the leaked screenshots show that the unannounced device scored 35,430 in AnTuTu. The score is not exactly mind-blowing and could well have something to do with the pre-production nature of the tested handset.

Oppo Find 5 wont see Android 4.4

Sad news for Oppo Find 5 owners came in today, as the company confirmed it will not push an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. Qualcomm hasn’t provided the hardware binaries for the Snapdragon APQ8064 chipset to run Android 4.4
Not all is lost, however. Since ColorOS 2.0 is based on Android 4.4, developers may take advantage of it and port it on Android 4.2 base while utilizing bits and pieces of the Android 4.4 framework. We don’t know if this will actually work, though and it’s likely that it won’t provide the expected results.

If you want to go the unofficial route, CyanogenMod provides a solution for you. There’s a CM 11 Nightly build for the Oppo Find 5, which should soon graduate to a more stable version. CyanogenMod 11 is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and provides a ton of additional functionality, which other custom UIs can’t offer.
