Asus Zenfone 2 arrives in India on April 13

Asus caused quite the stir back in January, when it announced the Zenfone 2, which would pack a high-end Intel Atom chipset alongside 4GB of RAM, and cost $200 in the meantime. As it later turned out, that wasn't quite the case and the price was for a lower-specced model, while the top dog gravitatesaround the $280 mark.

Either way, the highly-anticipated Asus smartphone is on its way to India, with a reported launch event scheduled for April 13. Asus is delivering on its promise for a Q2 launch, and they proved to be pretty quick about it. Not only that, but the company has chosen to offer only the top-of-the-range model, at least in the beginning.
The Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD screen, as opposed to lesser models which either pack a 5-incher or 720p resolution, or both. The ZE551ML moniker is still not entirely indicative of the configuration though, as multiple RAM and storage options are available.
The highest specs include an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but according to the report only the 16GB/32GB options will be available in India. In any case a microSD slot provides potential expansion to those who need it. Other than that, the smartphone comes with LTE connectivity, 13MP/5MP camera combo, 3,000mAh battery and Lollipop out of the box, for a comprehensive package on a budget.

Oppo N1 gets official Cyanogen CM11S ROM

Oppo N1 was launched in 2013 with an innovative rotating camera lens, top-notch hardware and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS skinned with Oppo's Color launcher.
The N1 was also the first phone to receive an official Cyanogen treatment as a collaboration with Cyanogen and Oppo. You are able to choose between the CM10.2 ROM based on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or the default Color OS by Oppo. You can switch any time you want.
Today, almost year and a half later Cyanogen continues to support the Oppo N1 and launched an official CM11S (KitKat-based) ROM. The highlights of the new ROM are the support for the O-Touch panel and O-Click remote, plus some default Oppo apps, which makes the CM-skinned Android look closet to the Oppo's Color OS.
If you have a Cyanogen-running Oppo N1 or want to switch to Cyanogen Mod now, you can follow the source link below and get the update file. Here is hoping Cyanogen sweetens the Oppo N1 with a Lollipop-treatment later this year with a CM12 ROM.

Google Now Voice feature to send messages on WhatsApp

We have seen Google Now to get more smarter and get rich with new features. Some of people want to use their Google Now Voice feature to send messages on WhatsApp which is not possible till yet.

Nevertheless, the root often solves the problem and fetching in the best way possible, as in this case thanks to root, Tasker and autovoice (and of course WhatsApp) are unable to accomplish what many had not expected, that the possibility of send messages via WhatsApp using voice commands Google Now from home.

If you want to try it you can take a look at a special thread on xda , since it does not even seem very difficult.

Moto X 3rd Gen (2015) coming this fall

Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, spilled the beans on company's plans about the next Moto X. He answered to a question on Twitter as part of the #AskRickO initiative. He was asked about the time-frame for the third generation Moto X.
Apparently the Motorola will be trying to keep an annual cycle for all its products, including the Moto X, which means we can expect the third Moto X to go official in August or September.
Earlier this year Qualcomm and Motorola revealed the company's next flagship will be powered by the latest generation Snapdragon 810 chip, which suggests the next Moto X might indeed use the Snapdragon 810 SoC. There are some overheating issues with this chip though and the current crop of flagships resolves them with a proper CPU throttling.
A cooler Snapdragon 815 successor is already in the pipeline, and the Snapdragon 820 is already official, so hopefully the Moto X will be utilizing S815 or S820 instead of the 810 model, no matter the earlier announcement. We'd hate to see another phone threaten by the user concerns for its hardware.

Samsung may go beyond the current curved screen of the Galaxy S6 edge and introduce folding displays for the Galaxy S7.

The next flagship smartphone from Samsung may go beyond the current curved screen of the Galaxy S6 edge and introduce folding displays for the Galaxy S7.

According to Business Korea an unnamed official from Samsung display has said that the commercialisation of foldable smartphones will be possible by 2016.

The key point here is that the phone will fold in the screen, rather than the way current and past clam shaped handsets have folded.

Samsung has shown off flexible displays at numerous tradeshows over the years, from as far back as 2008. But until now there have been very few hints that this tech will ever make it into publically available smartphones.

As smartphones get thinner and thinner they're becoming more able to be folded without adding too much width to fit in a pocket comfortably. Imagine a smartphone sized lump in your pocket that could be folded out to the size of a tablet.

Here’s hoping a folding Galaxy S7 will arrive next year and it will be like Samsung's Youm concept video from 2011 that shows a folding semi-translucent device (below).

How much a device like this will cost or weather it will be an option alongside a normal flagship is obviously unclear at this early stage. But we'd imagine something like this coming as an extra, more expensive option, like the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge does alongside the Galaxy S6.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo to get Lollipop later this year

Before you think Samsung has forgotten about the lesser known cousin of the Note 3, the Galaxy Note 3 Neo, think again. The company's French Twitter account responded to a query about the Lollipop update for the device, confirming that the update is indeed arriving for the device some time later this year.

The Note 3 Neo is the cheaper alternative to the Note 3, with a 720p display, 8 megapixel camera and hexa-core Exynos 5260 processor. The problem with devices like these is that they are usually forgotten when it comes to updating them but it seems that it will be getting the Lollipop update, if a bit late.

New iOS 8.3 beta builds go out to testers and developers

Almost two weeks ago, Apple officially unveiled its consumer-oriented beta program for iOS 8.3. At the same time, it released the first beta build for eager testers, which coincided with the third iOS 8.3 beta release for developers.
And today it's time for a new update. A new beta build of iOS 8.3 is now going out to both developers and consumers.

For developers, this is the fourth beta of the next iOS release, which might be an indication that we're headed towards the finalization of the build pretty soon. For consumers who are using the Apple Seed program, this is the second beta of iOS 8.3, which will show up for them in Software Update on their devices.
The download sizes may be different for each device, but in all cases it looks like we're seeing files above 100MB.
iOS 8.3 beta 4 for developers removes the "beta" tag from iCloud Photo Library, but this isn't the first time that this has happened - so it may be back in the future. Additionally, the message filtering feature introduced in an earlier beta has been refined somewhat, with the category for iMessages sent by people who aren't in your contact list having been renamed to "Unknown Senders".
Obviously some unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements should be in too, but that's pretty much it for new stuff in this release.

Xiaomi's onslaught of affordable technology continues. The Chinese company has today launched its new 40-inch Mi TV 2: a powerful smart TV running an Android-based OS that will sell for $320.

The new TV features a 40-inch full HD LED panel by Sharp with 5000:1 contrast ratio, a Cortex-A9 quad-core 1.45GHz CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of flash storage and a MIUI TV Android-based OS. In terms of playback, it offers H.265 10-bit hardware decoding, allowing you watch H.265, H.264, MPEG4, and REAL, as well as other mainstream video formats like RM, FLV, MOV, AVI, MKV, TS and MP4. Xiaomiappears to be playing up its gaming credentials, too, and boasts that it measures just 14.5 millimeters front-to-back at its thinnest. It appears to be available with a range of bright rear casings, too, that my help you jolly up your pad.

Perhaps the best part, though, is the price. Xiaomi will be selling the TV fo 2,000 CNY—which is about $320. And while you stand no chance of using a Xaiomi phone in the U.S., there is a glimmer of hope that you may, one day, be able to buy one of these. Xaiomi is to sell its wares in the U.S. this year; it won't sell phones, but it will sell other products. With any luck, this may be one of them.

Asus Zenfone 2 arrives in China, only the 5.5-inch models

The Asus Zenfone 2 launched in Taiwan earlier this month and it's now launching in China too. The base 5" model is not available, but all three 5.5" variations are.
This includes the top of the line model with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor from Intel, 4GB of RAM, 5.5" 1080p screen and 64GB of storage. That's the ZE551ML model and it costs CNY 2,000 (that's equivalent to $322).

Asus Zenfone 2 lands in China
Below that is a another ZE551ML model, but this one has a slower chipset with a 1.8GHz quad-core processor and only 32GB built-in storage (there's a microSD card slot though). It still has 4GB of RAM and a 5.5" 1080p display. You'll also save some cash, this one is CNY 1,700 ($273).
The cheapest Asus Zenfone 2 to be available in China is yet another device labeled ZE551ML. This one cuts the RAM to 2GB and halves the storage again to 16GB, but keeps the 1.8GHz processor and 5.5" 1080p screen. It's CNY 1,300 ($210).
The prices are pretty similar to the Taiwanese prices. Just be careful when ordering your device as the model number isn’t very helpful – check that you're getting the RAM and storage you wanted.

Lollipop update for Sony Xperia T2 Ultra gets certification

A tweet from @SonyXperia broke many hearts when it claimed that only Sony's premium Xperia Z linewill get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. A Bluetooth certification labeled "Tianchi Update to L" shows this might not actually be the case.
"Tianchi" was the codename for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and "L" should be pretty easy to guess – until Google reveal the official treat, Android 5.0 was known just as "L."
The certification itself was granted on March 11 and the results listed a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, this is where the duties of the Bluetooth SIG end, there's no indication when the update may be released. This is subject to making sure the software works and collaborating with carriers to push out the update.
The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra launched on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean then got updated to 4.4.2 KitKat (and4.4.3 after that).

Google seems to be rolling out a new ‘Smart Lock’ feature for Android devices running Lollipop

Google seems to be rolling out a new ‘Smart Lock’ feature for Android devices running Lollipop — On-body detection. This new feature will only lock your device when it is sitting on a table or in your pocket.
The feature will make use of the accelerometer on your Android device to detect any movement. In case it does not detect any movement, it will automatically lock your device. But if you are holding the device in your hand and it is already unlocked, On-body will keep it unlocked.
In case you hand over your device to someone while it is unlocked, On-body will keep it unlocked. The feature cannot determine who is holding the device, it only knows that someone is holding it and thus keeps it unlocked.
Google is rolling out the feature only to selected users for now, but it is likely that a wider rollout will start within the next few weeks. For now, the feature has only shown up on Nexus devices, but it is likely that Google will roll it out to other Android devices running Lollipop as well.

Samsung Galaxy S5 getting Lollipop OTA update in India

Samsung had began rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Galaxy smartphone lineup. Now the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 owners in India are getting the Lollipop OTA update.

The Exynos powered Galaxy S5 G900H is getting the Lollipop update with system-wide UI tweaks, performance improvements and bug fixes. Of course, the Material design of the Lollipop has been wrapped in TouchWiz layer and hence it would not be a radical change. The OTA update weighs 874.21 MB.

Samsung has been seeding the Lollipop update for Snapdragon based S5 and later for Exynos based model since last December, starting with South Korea, then continued to offer it in PolandSpainUK,US, and other regions.

Android 5.1 rolling out to Micromax Canvas A1 in India

Micromax just announced that over the course of a week it will be rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its budget-minded Canvas A1 smartphone. The update is being seeded in India, and comes just in time not to break Goolge's promise from a few weeks ago.

The update shouldn't surprise anyone as Android One smartphones have since been launched with the latest Android version out of the box in multiple countries. Meanwhile, devices in India have remained on the still prevalent KitKat iteration.
The Android 5.1 update brings improvements and bug fixes over the the 5.0 installment in several areas. Most notable to the end user is the return of silent mode, as well as better quick settings implementation for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Native multiple SIM support is brought along and a new security feature locks the phone until you sign in with your Google account, as an added deterrent to phone theft.

Device Protection is one important feature that keeps the lost or stolen devices locked even if the factory settings reset is tried and functions only when signed in with actual Google account. Apart from these improvements, there are several under the hood tweaks arriving with this update.

The update is available over the air and weighs about 780MB. There is nothing in the changelog besides the "Android OS Upgrade". It will bring the new Material design across the interface though the Optimus UX skins almost everything.

New Lollipop image available for Nexus 6

Last week Android 5.1 was made official and naturally made available for Google's own Nexus devices. It brought many improvements over previous Lollipop builds, including a few new features, like HD voice calls and silent mode.
The Nexus 6 was one of the handsets that benefited most from the new OS version, which brought about performance improvements and fixes to the handset. That version was distributed to users in the form of an OTA, but a quick look at Google's Factory Images page, reveals that there is now another Android 5.1 build for the same device.

According to the change log, this new software does not bring any significant changes, which is also evident from its identical version number. Instead the LMY47E build comes with a new version of the radio drivers, which signifies some tweaks and changes were made in connectivity - cellular, Wi-Fi or otherwise.
It is still unclear, whether the new Lollipop build will be distributed to users over the air. Chances are, that if it brings about some universally beneficial patch or improvement, it will seed to users. However, it might be targeted to address a very concrete issue, in which case, it will most likely be up to users to decide whether or not they want to flash it.

Galaxy S6 to reportedly go on sale in the US on April 11

The Samsung Galaxy S6, which was unveiled at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will launch in the US on April 11, according to a report from Phone Arena, which cited a source working with one of the four major US carriers.
As per the report, all four major carriers in the country - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile - will start offering the device on the same day. As for the Galaxy S6 Edge, the device would be launched in a “limited capacity,” just like the Galaxy Note Edge.
The report also notes that Samsung reps are currently visiting retail outlets around the country, providing demo and training on the new devices.
